PrettyLitter was designed with proprietary health monitoring technology to help signal some potential health issues early before you may even notice symptoms in your cat. Specifically, the PrettyLitter formula evolves the traditional urine chart by reacting to certain urinary elements such as levels of acidity and alkalinity to make color changes visible to the naked eye or show blood.
PrettyLitter reacts to the pH of your cat's urine. When urine comes in contact with our litter, the crystals can change color based on certain acidity and alkalinity levels. There are 4 primary ranges or “hues” used as indicators for health monitoring.

Blue = High Alkalinity Blue may indicate a pH consistent with urinary infections or higher stone risk. Highly alkaline urine can increase the risk for struvite crystal/stone formation. |

Dark Yellow/Olive Green = Typical Dark yellow / olive green indicates urine within a typical, healthy range. This is the baseline color for a healthy cat on the PrettyLitter chart. |

Orange = High AcidityOrange may indicate a pH consistent with metabolic acidosis or kidney tubular acidosis. Calcium oxalate crystals can be more likely to form in acidic urine. |

Red = Presence of BloodPresence of blood, which may indicate Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disorder (FLUTD), bladder stones/crystals, kidney stones, bladder inflammation, certain types of kidney disease and clotting disorders. In rarer cases it can also mean bladder cancer or an internal injury. |

PrettyLitter will help you monitor your cat’s health in detecting abnormalities in your cat’s urine by testing acidity and alkalinity levels and the visible presence of blood. PrettyLitter cannot detect every feline health issue or prevent or diagnose diseases. A diagnosis can only come from a licensed veterinarian.
Want to test your litter?
- Tap water has a typical pH in the green to yellow range
- Vinegar is acidic (outside the normal range) and will show orange
- Ammonia is alkaline (outside the normal range) and will show blue
- Because our litter is white, blood in urine appears red and is easy to spot
